As a professional handyman for more than 20 years I can say that this is good and bad. Handymen really differ in that none are formally trained and to be really good they have to be driven.
Personally I have installed a hundreds of water heaters and thousands of faucets but that was in a different locality. Here in Florida they require extensive testing to become a licensed contractor. Above you can see the types of industry that are restricted.
